OYO 2027: BSA – THE BRAND TOO BIG TO BLACKMAIL, TOO ROOTED TO RIG

In the crowded race for the Agodi Government House in 2027, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, popularly known as BSA, has proven a simple political truth that brand power beats noise, and while others are busy buying billboards and renting crowds, BSA is cashing in on three decades of political equity. The formula for understanding his dominance is brutal and mathematical, because brand power equals recognition multiplied by reputation multiplied by affinity multiplied by domain, and on all four variables BSA multiplies where others merely add.

RECOGNITION: THE NAME THE STREET ALREADY KNOWS

In brand science recognition is instant recall without prompting, and in Oyo politics there are aspirants who still need a master of ceremony to introduce them in their own local government, but there is BSA whose initials are enough from Ibadan to Oke-Ogun. He was not introduced to Oyo politics yesterday, at 28 he became the first elected Executive Chairman of Ibadan North, the most populous local government in the state, between December 1991 and November 1993, and he was elected Senator for Oyo South under UNCP in 1996 before military incursion under General Abacha stopped him from being sworn in. He has been PDP State Secretary from 1998 to 1999 and Acting State Chairman, Secretary to the State Government and later Chief of Staff under Governor Rashidi Ladoja between 2003 and 2007, Chairman of the Board of Odu’a Investment Company Limited from 2011 to 2014, Deputy Governorship candidate of Labour Party in 2015 alongside the late Otunba Alao Akala, governorship candidate of Zenith Labour Party in 2019, and now Senator for Oyo South in the 10th Assembly having polled 111,513 votes in 2023.

That is not just a CV, it is recall etched into the political memory of the state, from his birth to the Olofiere family in Mapo and growing up at N4/224A Oke Aremo in Ibadan North, through Progressive Day School Alaadorin Isale-Osi, Anwaru-Islam Grammar School Eleyele and Ilesha Grammar School, to the University of Ibadan where he bagged LL.B in 1986, Nigerian Law School in 1987, a Masters in Law back in UI and a PhD in Legislative and Strategic Studies at Federal University Lokoja. You cannot blackmail a brand the street already knows by heart, because when you mention BSA market women do not ask which one, they complete the sentence.

REPUTATION: THE OMOLUABI QUALITY WARRANT

If recognition is knowing the name, reputation is trusting the name to deliver, and in a political market full of bounced cheques of promises BSA carries what brand experts call a quality warrant which in his case is called Omoluabi. This is not a slogan printed by consultants but a verdict earned over decades and affirmed by colleagues who describe him as quintessential leader, humble servant and promise-keeper. His tenure as Chairman of Odu’a Investment produced concrete assets like Heritage Mall and Cocoa Mall in Ibadan at a time when many government investments were audio projects, and in the Senate his credibility earned him Chairman of the INEC Committee, Vice Chairman of Customs Excise and Tariff, and now Chairman Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, positions where he is rated as a voice of reason and not a noise maker.

Like IBM in the early PC wars which crushed Osborne and Kaypro not by shouting louder but because customers trusted its warrant would not fail them in a confused market, BSA enters the confused Oyo APC market as the trusted warrant, and his rise through the Ibadan traditional system to become Maye Balogun of Ibadanland was not by appointment but by character, built on integrity, humility and accessibility which are rare currencies in Nigerian politics. You can sponsor falsehood against a product, you cannot sponsor falsehood against a delivered mall, and that is why blackmail fails against him.

AFFINITY: WHEN A POLITICIAN BECOMES AN IDENTITY

The most dangerous brand power is affinity, which is when a brand stops being a choice and becomes part of the user’s identity and lifestyle, and here BSA separates himself completely from the pack. Some politicians are respected like Boeing, high recognition and high reputation but cold and distant, BSA is loved like Harley-Davidson where ownership becomes identity. The ultimate test of a powerful brand is whether it spawns independent and self-perpetuating user clubs without being paid, and BSA has passed that test in grand style.

Across Oyo South his philanthropy and empowerment for women, youth, traders, artisans and the less privileged were not done as a jamboree for cameras but as lifestyle investment that created emotional shareholders. He is described as a devoted family man whose constituents do not just recount what he gave them but who he is to them, accessible, kind and empathetic, and like the 75,000 Harley bikers who rode across America for an anniversary or Disney loyalists who turned shops into shrines, his supporters wear Omoluabi Senator not as campaign uniform but as identity badge. You can attack a politician but you cannot attack a people’s sense of self without provoking a backlash, and every attack on an Omoluabi only deepens the affinity and makes the bond stronger.

DOMAIN: THE STATEWIDE BRIDGE BRAND

The final pillar that makes him unstoppable is domain, which is the breadth of plausible catchment area for a brand, and some aspirants are like Campbell’s Soup, prisoners of one flavour who can win their ward and fail in the next local government, or like Levi’s which tried to sell classic tailored suits and was rejected by the market as an oxymoron because Levi’s means jeans not suits. Oyo 2027 needs a statewide domain and BSA’s domain is intimidating because it stretches credibly without snapping.

In Ibadanland he is the Mapo son and Maye Balogun, in Oyo South where he holds the senatorial mandate and sits in the 10th Assembly and also represents Nigeria in the 6th Legislature of ECOWAS Parliament inaugurated in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, he is incumbent power with structure, and in Oke-Ogun and Oyo North he is not seen as an Ibadan imperialist but as a tested administrator who has served in PDP, Labour, ACN and APC, making him a bridge brand and not a sectional brand.

Like Marriott putting its name on Courtyard Hotels where customers instantly know what quality to expect, when BSA puts his name on the APC ticket unveiled on September 4, 2026 as consensus candidate for the governorship alongside other candidates, voters know what to expect, which is Omoluabi governance. When his opponents put their initials, like ITT putting meaningless letters on Sheraton Hotels, the voter gets no coherent message. That is why his brand is too deep to dismiss and too rooted to rig, because in a race where Oyo APC needs a banner brand to reclaim Agodi from PDP it does not need a trial-and-error product with high recognition but zero affinity, or high affinity in one zone but zero domain statewide. It needs the mathematics of equity, recognition that cannot be hidden, reputation that cannot be denied, affinity that cannot be broken, and domain that cannot be fenced, and that banner brand is BSA, that is Biodun Sharafadeen Alli.
