President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR yesterday inaugurated the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the State House in Abuja.
The council was established based on the Nigeria Startup Act, 2022 (NSA, 2022), which was signed into law in December 2022.
According to President Buhari, the council will oversee the implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act, which aims to stimulate the growth of innovative startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
The council is designed to promote Nigeria’s digital economy and support entrepreneurs.
In his opening remarks, President Buhari highlighted the importance of the NCDIE in driving economic growth and job creation. He noted that the council will consolidate on the gains recorded in the sector under his administration.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Prof. Isa Ali Pantami speaking at the inauguration of the council, asserted that under the Buhari administration, the information and communication technology, ICT sector has consistently been setting new records in GDP contribution to the economy.
The NCDIE, which is chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, has 13 other members, including the Vice President, Ministers of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, and the Governor of the Central Bank, among others.
The inauguration of the NCDIE preceded the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
