The Anambra State Government has sealed an unregistered health facility, Vick-Benedict’s Home in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia LGA, and shut down several operations run by unauthorized Traditional Birth Attendants.
The enforcement was carried out on Monday by the State Ministry of Health, led by Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu.
Obidike said the facilities were operating without registration or approval from the ministry, in violation of established healthcare regulations.
“We have ordered the immediate sealing of Vick-Benedict’s Home and directed the operators to report to the Department of Medical Services at the Secretariat, Awka, for further clarification and regulatory action,” Obidike said.
“We also inspected and shut down facilities operated by some TBAs who are allegedly practicing healthcare services without authorization from the ministry.”
The commissioner said the action is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to sanitize the health sector and ensure only licensed, properly regulated facilities operate in the state.
He warned operators of unregistered hospitals, maternity homes, rehabilitation centres, and TBA facilities to regularize their operations or face closure and possible prosecution.
Obidike urged residents to seek medical attention only from registered and accredited health facilities, stressing that the government remains committed to protecting lives through strict enforcement of healthcare standards.
He added that the ministry will continue monitoring healthcare providers across the state to ensure compliance with laws guiding medical practice.
