The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, for allegedly killing her co-wife in a domestic fight at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi.
The incident happened on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05 pm. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the C-Division in Bauchi received a distress report about a violent altercation between two co-wives in the same household.
Preliminary investigation showed that Hauwa’u, who is the second wife, allegedly armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, on the forehead. The police said the suspect was acting under hallucinations at the time of the attack. The blow made Jamila fall unconscious immediately.
Detectives attached to the C-Division were mobilized to the scene as soon as the report came in. The officers documented the scene and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi for urgent medical attention. At the hospital, a medical doctor certified her dead. Her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The police confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and the pestle allegedly used to commit the crime has been recovered and kept as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner condoled with the bereaved family while warning members of the public against domestic violence. He also advised families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for family members who show signs of mental health challenges.
