HON. WILSON OSAGIE , an APC chieftain and a prominent politician from Edo State, last Thursday joined others across the country to commend the Supreme Court over her judgment in which it granted autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
In the judgment delivered recently by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the seven-person panel declared that the 774 local government councils in the country should manage their funds themselves. The apex court also held that the power of the government is portioned into three arms of government, the federal, the state and the local government.
Reacting to the judgment , Hon. Wilson urged the state governors to accept and respect the Supreme Court’s verdict that granted autonomy to the 774 local government areas in the interest of the rule of laws .,constitutionality and fairness . He noted that the judgment is in the interest of Nigeria’s future ,particularly as it could lead to faster development at the grassroots level .
HON. WILSON OSAGIE declared ,’’ this Judgment has come at a time when Nigerians were starting to loose confidence in the judiciary and the country at large” . He expressed optimism that the local governments could now undertake projects on their own based on this judgement. However, he appealed to governors who have not conducted elections at the local government level to do so as soon as possible.
In his final observations , the APC chieftain described the judgment “ as local government emancipation “. Meanwhile, the Honorable elated y the Verdit applaud the President and Commander of the Armed forces (President Bola Tinubu GCFR), for restoring hope to Nigerians through the judiciary. In the same vein, he commended his friend and brother, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun (IGP), the Chief of Staff to the President and his bosom friend (Femi Gbajabiamila, and all his friends and governors in their respective states for their frantic to build a united and prosperous Nigeria.
