United Nigeria Airlines hands VeryDarkMan, comedian Mr Jollof to security after in-flight fight

United Nigeria Airlines has handed popular social media figures Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and entertainer Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, also known as Mr Jollof, over to airport security on Monday after a heated altercation while boarding a scheduled Asaba–Lagos flight.

This altercation forced the airline’s crew to intervene and deboard them to maintain safety and order.

The incident was disclosed in a signed statement posted on the airline’s official X account, on Monday where the carrier detailed how its crew handled the situation.

According to the statement, “United Nigeria Airlines confirms that an altercation occurred between two passengers, identified as Martins Vincent Otse ‘VeryDarkman’ and Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi ‘Mr. Jollof’, during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on the morning of 17 November 2025.”

The airline stated that its staff acted swiftly in accordance with global standards.

“In full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, our crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation. Both passengers were deboarded without delay to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of all other passengers and crew members. They were subsequently handed over to airport security for further investigation.”

Reaffirming its safety policies, the carrier added, “United Nigeria Airlines places the highest priority on safety and maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that threatens the security or well-being of passengers or crew. After all standard procedures were completed, the flight departed safely while the passengers involved in the altercation were still with the authorities.”

The airline further assured travellers of its continued commitment to high operational standards.

“We remain firmly committed to providing a safe, respectful, and secure travel experience across our network.”

An altercation between the two popular Nigerian internet personalities VeryDarkMan and entertainer Mr Jollof, occurred on Monday morning at the Asaba International Airport, drawing public attention.

Although full details of what triggered the altercation remain unclear, the incident follows weeks of online tension between the two personalities. VDM and Mr Jollof have been engaged in a public back-and-forth on social media, trading criticisms and responding to each other’s commentaries on social issues.

Their exchanges have garnered a significant following, with fans of both sides frequently engaging in heated discussions in the comment sections.

However, as of press time, efforts to reach the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority proved unsuccessful, with calls and messages to the agency going unanswered.
