Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Drops Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa
ABUJA, FCT — President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, sacking Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun and Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ahmed Dangiwa, according to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The memo directed Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who will now head the Ministry of Finance and serve as Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously held the portfolio as minister of state in the same ministry.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister designate for Housing and Urban Development. Dangiwa was directed to hand over to the minister of state in the ministry.
All handover and takeover processes are to be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23 April 2026, the memo stated.
Explaining the president’s decision, Akume said the changes are “aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He added that President Tinubu “has fully exercised his powers as conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended)” in approving the reshuffle.
The president thanked Edun and Dangiwa for their services to the nation and wished them the best in future endeavours. Akume noted that the president “equally assured all cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
Reaction to the announcement was swift online. Commenting on the development, user Yemmysworld91 wrote at 5:41pm: “Long overdue. Fresh ideas are needed in that ministry of finance. Inflation must come down biko.”
The appointments of Oyedele and Darma bring new leadership to two ministries central to the administration’s economic and social agenda, with finance expected to drive fiscal coordination and housing tasked with urban development delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
