THE Anambra state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has won his re-election bid for a second term in office with a runaway victory, polling 442, 664 votes to defeat Hon. Nicholas Ukachukwu of APC, who came second with 99,445 votes.
In Obosi, a town in Idemili North LGA of Anambra state, a great majority of the people, who exercised their franchise, cast their votes in favour of the ruling political party, APGA.
For example, at polling units 36 and 37, which are located in Obosi ward, APGA scored 54 and 57 votes against 14 and 6 votes recorded by its closest rival, APC.
And at polling units 021 and 020, which are, also, in Obosi ward, APGA garnered 69 and 47 votes while APC recorded 10 and 20 votes.
During the election, Chief Emenike Mgbemena (Oboli Obosi), who is a member of the Igwe Chidubem Iweka’s ruling cabinet in Obosi, went round some of the polling units in Obosi in the company of his aides and journalists.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Mgbemena expressed optimism that Gov. Soludo would win his reelection bid, resoundingly and convincinly, given his impressive leadership performance as the Anambra state governor.
“What Gov. Soludo has done for Anambra state and its people is massively great.
“And the people are voting for him as a reward for his provision of good leadership to the people,” Chief Mgbemena said.
And the President General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU) , Barr. Chimezie Obi, expressed sadness that the voters’ turn-out was lower than expected, notwithstanding the fact that ODU carried out an awareness campaign to sensitize the people on the need for them to perform their civic duty.
“In a particular polling unit of 800 registered voters, we recorded 100 votes. And at another polling unit, where we have 700 registered voters, we recorded votes, which are less than 100 votes.
“That is not good for Obosi given our strategic importance in Idemili North LGA.
“And the people ought to know that their casting of votes in an election is both a right and duty, which they should carry out,” Obi said.
More so, an APGA big gun in Obosi, Chief Azubike Anowi, congratulated INEC on its conduct of the 2025 Anambra governorship election, which was peaceful, hitch-free, and violence-free.
And he was hopeful that Gov. Soludo would emerge the winner in the election as he had delivered the dividends of democracy to the masses during his first term in office.
“I have no iota of doubt in mind that Gov. would win with landslide victory in this election.
“And as governor Soludo performed very well in his first term in office, the Anambra people would vote for him again.
“And I am thankful and grateful to INEC for conducting an election that is peaceful, hitch-free, and violence-free,” Chief Anowi said.
Gov. Soludo’s runaway victory in the concluded 2025 Anambra state governorship election, which has returned him to office for another four years, may have entombed the political ambitions of Hon. Nicholas Ukachukwu and others, even if temporarily.
