 Security Votes, Naira Redesign Top Agenda for NGF Meeting With NFIU, CBN, Others On Tuesday April 4th, 2023

The Nigerian Governors Forum under the leadership of Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal (Governor of Sokoto State) will meet with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023. 

According to the Director-General of the NGF Mr. Asishana Bayo Okauru, the meeting will be virtual to accommodate the 36 State Governors and Heads of the relevant agencies participating.

Other key financial regulators that will be meeting with the NGF include: The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, National Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, and The Federal Inland Revenue Commission, FIRS. 

The meeting will consider deepening the management and expansion of the cashless policy, review of the redesigning of the national currency, and explore ways of improving financial inclusion for all citizens.

It will also discuss better options of managing the monthly allocations to state governments to improve security in their respective territories.

The engagement between the NGF and the financial agencies will explore ways of ensuring accountability in the disbursement of security votes by the Government.

Also on the agenda of the meeting is a consensus on harmonizing and updating the national tax collection and business entry standards, and its requirements to help respond to the Finance Action Task Force, FATF and the European Union, EU grey listing in which Nigeria appeared.

The demand for efficiency in public finance at the Sub-national level of governance has been on the increase as the calls for restructuring of the federations gains momentum.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR signed 16 bills into law which has led to the devolution of powers in electricity and railways increasing the participation of Sub-national economies.
