Reps begin screening of service chiefs
For the first time, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, this morning, February 17, began the screening of the newly appointed Service Chiefs. This is, hitherto, solely done by the upper house of the Senate.
Chairman, House Committee on Defence and Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee on Screening the Service Chiefs, Hon. Babajimi Benson, said it is in accordance with provisions of Section 18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20 Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, which requires that the nominees be confirmed by the entire National Assembly.
Both chairmen, however, expressed optimism that the House will give the Service Chiefs all the necessary support to succeed in their various assignments, if confirmed.
The House said there is imperative for the nation to do all within its capacity to get the issue of security right, especially, in memories of all those who have lost their lives fighting against insecurity.
