Police Probe Ammunition Parcel Sent to FirstBank MD
Lagos, June 23, 2026 — The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a suspicious parcel containing live ammunition that was delivered to the Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu.
Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani confirmed the development while speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the Command headquarters in Ikeja. He said detectives had begun inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the delivery.
According to Tijani, the parcel was first received by the executive’s security guard before it was passed to Alebiosu. The FirstBank MD later reported the incident to the police after finding two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition inside.
“The Managing Director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf,” Tijani said. “The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves.”
Sources within the bank said the parcel was delivered to Alebiosu’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos Island, by a dispatch rider. The package was marked confidential and carried only the recipient’s name and address, with no information identifying the sender.
The motive behind the delivery remains unclear. Police are working to establish whether it was meant as a threat or connected to other criminal activity.
Tijani noted that no arrests had been made so far. He added that investigators were following several leads, including information provided by the complainant on individuals who may have knowledge of or involvement in the matter.
The incident comes amid ongoing internal reforms at FirstBank aimed at improving efficiency in financial transactions and recovering outstanding loans from customers alleged to have defaulted on repayments.
