….Replaced by Mojisola Meranda
…How the Quest to become Governor in 2027 Imperiled him

The embattled Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa has been impeached. 32 members out of 40 moved against the Speaker on Monday January 23,2025 accusing him of gross misconduct including mishandling of constituency projects.
He was immediately replaced by Mojisola Meranda from Apapa 1 State Constituency.
Apart from the sundry allegations of corruption including a petition standing against him at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Obasa’s impeachment is also self inflicted in a way.
Recently he ruffled feathers with open and covert maneuvers to position himself to run for the coveted seat of Governor of Lagos State in spite of some unwritten rule about how this is done.

Again In the buildup to the commencement of the Second Term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Obasa stirred the House to directly challenge the Governor leading to the rejection of some of his commissioner-nominees before direct instruction came from higher quarters.

And when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Lagos recently, the party’s apex body the Governor’s Advisory Council ,GAC reported Obasa to Tinubu accusing him of disrespecting the person and office of the Governor and destabilizing some organs of the party.

Before then Obasa on the floor of the House had indirectly stated his intention to run for the Governorship of Lagos in 2027 and added what many thought to be a jibe even at the president. He said ,” I am not too young to run , and those who have been Governor are not inherently more qualified than me.” This to many political associates and followers of President Tinubu, was an unforgettable sin.
That was the final nail and before long the directive for his removal came from the higher quarters.
Obasa was in his third term as speaker when he was impeached and replaced by Miranda who was elected into the House in 2015.
