Mimiko’s Allies Ditch PDP for APC in Ondo State

Mimiko’s Allies Ditch PDP for APC in Ondo State: A Game-Changer Ahead of Governorship Election.

In a significant political shift ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State, associates of former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa welcomed the defectors, including 29 key players from Mimiko’s administration, at the party’s headquarters in Akure.

This move solidifies the alliance between Mimiko’s associates and Aiyedatiwa, paving the way for a united front in the upcoming governorship election. The governor stated that APC now has key players from the Ade Adefarati, Olusegun Agagu, and Olusegun Mimiko eras, united to move Ondo State forward.

Led by Hon. Akinlaja Joseph, a two-term House of Representatives member and former Labour leader, the defectors aim to contribute to APC’s victory and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They’ve already enlisted supporters across 203 wards, demonstrating their commitment to the party’s success.

The defection includes notable figures like:

  • Alaba Lad Ojomo, former Chairman of the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Finance
  • Jumoke Akindele, former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly
  • Victor Akinjo, former Commissioner for Works
  • Gboluga Ikengboju, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development

More associates are expected to join APC from the 18 local government areas, further bolstering the party’s chances in the election.

Speaking at the defection ceremony, Akinlaja emphasized the group’s motivation: “We are joining APC to contribute our quota to the seamless victory of His Excellency, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the APC in the forthcoming election.

“We also want to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and contribute to solving Nigeria’s challenges, rather than remaining in an unserious structure that is neither desirous of nor prepared for victory” Akinlaja said.

Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the defectors, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party. “Your decision to join APC is a testament to our party’s inclusive and progressive ideals. Together, we will work towards a brighter future for Ondo State”.

The mass defection is seen as a significant boost to APC’s chances in the governorship election, with analysts predicting a strong showing for the party.

As the political landscape in Ondo State continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the alliance between Mimiko’s associates and APC has reshaped the electoral dynamics, setting the stage for a thrilling contest.
