Investors Lose N858.30bn as NGXASI Dips by 3.23%; Overnight Rate Closes Flat at 16.75%; BDC Rate Depreciates to N735

1. EQUITIES MARKET 

1.1 NGX – Listed Equities

Nigerian Equities Market maintained negative posture as the key market indicator dipped further by 1575.81bps amid negative market breadth

The NGX All-Share Index dipped by 3.23% to close at 47,260.89 basis points as against 0.09% loss recorded previously to close at 48,836.70 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N858.3bn loss.

YTD, the NGXASI Stands at +10.64% 

The total volume traded grew by +3.80% to close at 140.67m, valued at N2.52bn and traded in 4,372 deals. GTCO was the most traded stock by volume with 25.73m units traded while GEREGU was also the most traded stock by value which is put at N586.76m 

Sectoral performance was broadly negative as one (1) NGX sector index closed northward, thirteen (13) closed southward while four (4) closed flat. The NGXAFRHDYI inched up by 0.15% to top the gainers chart while the NGX MAIN BOARD Index dipped by 5.06% to top the losers’ chart.

Gote index dipped by -0.02% to closed at 128.23 basis points and the Toni index dipped by 1.75% to close at 99.87 basis points.

At the close of trading, market recorded 14 gainers to 23 losers and 56 unchanged. GEREGU topped the list of gainers while AIRTELAFRI topped the list of losers. 

Thus, market breadth closed negative as the Market Breadth Index (MBI) is put at -0.16x.

Volume and Value Contribution

GTCO led the volume’s chart with 19.71% contribution and closely followed by STERLNBANK and ZENITHBANK

GEREGU tops the value’s chart with 23.32% contribution and closely followed by GTCO and ZENITHBANK

On the global scene, the USA Nasdaq Index leads the top five gainers with 1.64% gain while the Nigeria All Share Index tops the top five losers with -2.01% loss as of 4pm Nigerian Time

Similarly, on the African scene, the Casablanca Index tops the top five gainers with 0.65% gain while the Zimbabwe All Share Index tops the top five losers with 5.49% loss as of 4pm Nigerian Time

2. BONDS AND FIXED INCOME MARKETS

2.1 Debt Market Size

The FMDQ Debt Market Size declined by 0.03% to close at N29.34trn.

2.2 Overnight and Open Repo (OPR)

The overnight lending rate expanded by 0.75% to close at 16.75% while the Open Repo (OPR) rate also expanded by 0.75% to close at 16.25%

3. COMMODITIES MARKET

3.1 AFEX Indices

The AFEX ACI and the AFEX AEI both closed flat 

3.2 AFEX Commodity Prices

Paddy rice advanced by 5.52% to top gainers chart while Soybeans declined by 0.50% to top the losers’ chart.

3.3 Global Commodity Prices

Gold recorded 0.43% loss while Silver also advanced by 0.77% as of 12:33 NY time

In the energy market, Brent advanced by 0.63% while WTI also advanced by 0.48% as of 11:33 AM Central Daylight Time (CDT)

4. CURRENCY/ FX MARKET

The naira appreciated by 0.20% at the I&E FX Window to close at N436.63/USD while the NAFEX rate also depreciated to close at N437.25
