Investors Gained N262.82bn as NGXASI Advanced by 0.47%; BDC Rate Depreciated to N1,615/USD

1. EQUITIES MARKET 

1.1 NGX – Listed Equities

The bulls resurfaced in the Nigerian equities market on Thursday, following Wednesday’s loss, on appreciation in prices of UCAP (+9.92%), OANDO (+9.76%), AIRTELAFRI (+4.76%), ETERNA (+4.65%), NAHCO (+2.97%), NASCON (+2.91%), FLOURMILL (+2.51%), ACCESSCORP  (+0.26%), and 16 others. 

As such, the All-Share Index (NGXASI) was up 0.47% to close at 100,503.21 points, rebounding from a loss of 0.04% on Wednesday when the index closed at 100,032.32 points. Investors gained N262.82bn as market capitalisation increased to N56.91trn while the year-to-date return stood at 34.41%.  

The Market Breadth Index (MBI), which measures investors’ sentiment, closed negatively at -0.08x, with 24 gainers against 29 losers, while 66 equities were unchanged. UCAP topped the gainers’ list, while LINKASSURE topped the losers’ list.  

The total volume traded declined by 64.27% to close at 392.80m, valued at N8.33bn and traded in 9,013 deals. GTCO was the most traded stock by volume with N39.75m units traded, while AIRTELAFRI was the most traded stock by value, worth N2.25bn

The Gote and Toni indices advanced by 0.02% and 0.05% to close at 343.55 and 1,303.74 points, while the Samad index remained flat at 364.34 points.

Volume and Value Contribution

GTCO was the most traded in volume, contributing 10.12%, while VERITASKAP and FCMB followed closely.

The value chart shows that AIRTELAFRI contributed the most, with a 26.94% share. GTCO and UBA followed closely.

The NASD Securities Index managed to eke out a gain on Thursday, as the NASD benchmark Index increased by 0.001% to close at 1,500.03 points, following a 1.48% decrease on Wednesday at 1,500.01 points. 

The total volume traded declined by 33.85% to close at N479,556 units valued at N377.95m, traded in 28 deal(s).  

At the close of trading, the NASD OTC market recorded two (2) gainers and one (1) loser.

The NAFEX rate depreciated 1.54% from N1,558.87/USD to N1,583.26/USD, while the BDC rate also depreciated by 2.48% from N1,575/USD to N1,615/USD.
