Investors Gain N277.31bn as NGXASI Inches up by 0.95%; Overnight Rate Closes Flat at 11.00%; BDC Rate Appreciates to N754

1. EQUITIES MARKET 

1.1 NGX – Listed Equities

Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator inched up by 499.95 bps amid positive market breadth.

The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.95% to close at 53,157.83 basis points as against 0.18% loss recorded previously to close at 52,657.88 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N277.31bn gain.

YTD, the NGXASI Stands at +3.72%

The total volume traded advanced by 17.68% to close at N201.36m, valued at N5.67bn and traded in 4,332 deals. ZENITHBANK  was the most traded stock by volume with 36.76m units traded while GEREGU was the most traded stock by value which is put at N1.79bn 

Sectoral performance was broadly negative as five (5) NGX sector index closed northward, ten (10) sector index closed southward and three (3) closed flat. The NGX INSURANCE index advanced by 0.36% to top the gainer’s chart while the NGX PREMIUM index declined by 0.76% to top the losers’ chart.

The Gote index stayed flat to close at 139.42 basis points while the Toni index declined by 0.35% to close at 121.58 basis points.

At the close of trading, the market recorded 28 gainers to 15 losers and 68 unchanged. GEREGU topped the list of gainers while WAPIC topped the list of losers. 

Thus, market breadth closed flat as the Market Breadth Index (MBI) is put at 5.23x.

Volume and Value Contribution

ZENITHBANK  led the volume’s chart with 18.26% contribution and closely followed by GTCO  and TRANSCORP

GEREGU tops the value’s chart with 31.63% contribution and followed by AIRTELAFRI and ZENITHBANK

Similarly, on the African scene, the Zimbabwe All Share Index tops the top five gainers with 2.19% gain while the Lusaka Index tops the top five losers with 0.05% loss as of 4pm Nigerian Time

2.1 Debt Market Size

The Debt Market Size closed flat at the close of trading.

2.2 Overnight and Open Repo (OPR)

The Overnight lending rate stayed flat to close at 11.00% while the Open Repo (OPR) rate stays stayed flat to close at 10.50%

3. COMMODITIES MARKET

3.1 AFEX Indices

The AFEX ACI advanced by 1.90% to close at 504.47 while the AFEX also advanced by 10.93% to close at 272.51 

3.2 AFEX Commodity Prices

Cocoa advanced by 6.25% to top the gainers chart while Cashew declined by 2.89% to top the losers’ chart.

3.3 Global Commodity Prices

Gold advanced by 1.03% while Silver also advanced by 1.43% as of 11:15 NY time

In the energy market, Brent declined by 2.16% and WTI also declined by -2.86% as of 10.15 AM Central Daylight Time (CDT)

4. CURRENCY/ FX MARKET

The naira at the I&E FX Window closed at N461.75/USD while the NAFEX rate closed at N461.42/USD
