A Civil Society group, The Osun Masterminds, has called on the state government to carry out thorough investigations into the alleged killing of an Amotekun officer by a soldier.
The group’s Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, made the call while addressing a news conference on Monday in Osogbo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Amotekun Commander, Mr Isaac Omoyele, in a statement on Sunday, said that one of its operatives was allegedly attacked on Saturday by a soldier.
Omoyele said that the officer later died in a hospital.
The Police Spokesperson in Osun, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, saying the police are working to arrest the prime suspect (an Army Private).
Oyedokun-Alli, however, said that the alleged killing of the Amotekun officer was a wake-up call for security agencies to ensure synergy in their mode of operations.
He also called on the leadership of Amotekun in the state to retrain its officers in line with its mandate.
“We commiserate with the family of the Amotekun officer who lost his life in the barbaric incident.
“The killings between security agencies call for an immediate review of our counter-terrorism policies and our approach to national security.
“We call for a policy drive that will bridge the acrimony between security agencies in order to ensure synergy in the discharge of their duties.
“To prevent the reoccurrence of such an ugly incident, various security agencies in the state must be compelled to work within their operational guidelines,” he said. (NAN)
