The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kwara State Sector Command, has deployed 950 officers, marshals, special marshals and first responders across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to ensure safer highways and free flow of traffic.
The Command also deployed 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and a 70-tonne tow truck as part of a special patrol operation scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026.
The Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Basambo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the exercise was part of proactive measures to reduce road crashes during the festive period.
He said, “The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kabiru Kazeem, has ordered the strategic deployment of personnel to major highways, cities and traffic-prone areas within Ilorin and other parts of the state.”
He explained that the operation was designed to ensure safer roads, prompt rescue services, quick clearance of obstructions and improved traffic management across the state.
According to him, the command would also intensify public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks, markets, religious centres and other public places to sensitise road users on safe driving practices.
“The deployment is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, ensuring prompt rescue response, clearing obstructions and improving traffic flow throughout the festive period,” Basambo added.
The Corps Commander, Kabiru Kazeem, warned motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules during the celebration, stressing that enforcement would be intensified across major corridors.
He listed targeted offences to include overloading, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, tyre violations, route violations, lane indiscipline, seatbelt violations and carrying passengers with goods.
“The objective of this operation is not only enforcement but also the protection of lives and property during the festive season,” Kazeem stated.
He added that ambulances and a heavy-duty tow truck had been deployed to ensure swift emergency response and prompt removal of broken-down vehicles or obstructions along highways.
Kazeem further disclosed that marshals had been stationed at strategic points across major roads in the state to monitor traffic and respond quickly to emergencies.
