A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N100 billion suit filed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE against Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other defendants over an oil import licence dispute.
The court dismissed the suit following an oral application by Dangote’s counsel, C.O. Adegbe, who withdrew the suit. The defence lawyers, including I.B. Ahmad for NMDPRA and Chris Ekemezie for some of the defendants, did not oppose the application but urged the court to dismiss the suit with costs.
Dangote Refinery had sued NNPCL, NMDPRA, and five other companies, challenging the issuance of import licences for refined petroleum products. The refinery sought N100 billion in damages and nullification of the licences. The case had been adjourned for hearing, but Dangote’s counsel withdrew it, citing a resolution to discontinue the suit.
