Investors Lost N46.70bn as NGXASI Declined by 0.08%; BDC Rate Depreciated to N1,590/USD

 1. EQUITIES MARKET 

1.1 NGX – Listed Equities

The Nigerian stock market ended the day negative, reversing the gains seen on Monday. This downtrend was driven by the decrease in prices of UBA (-1.52%), FBNH (-0.91%), UCAP (-0.64%), ACCESSCORP (-0.26%), and 23 others.

Consequently, the All-Share Index (NGXASI) decreased by 0.08% to close at 100,486.12 points, following a 0.03% gain registered on Monday at 100,568.60 points. Investors lost N46.70bn as market capitalisation decreased to N56.90trn, while the year-to-date return stood at 34.39%.  

The Market Breadth Index (MBI), which measures investors’ sentiment, closed negatively at -0.17x, with 27 losers against 14 gainers, while 76 equities were unchanged. IKEJAHOTEL topped the gainers’ list, while UPL topped the losers’ list.  

The total volume traded declined by 16.32% to close at 280.92m, valued at N3.63bn and traded in 8,403 deals. VERITASKAP was the most traded stock by volume with N22.51m units traded, while UCAP remained the most traded stock by value, worth N817.10m.

The Gote and Samad indices closed flat at 343.37 and 364.34 points, respectively, while the Toni index declined by 0.26% to close at 1,297.14 points.

Volume and Value Contribution

VERITASKAP was the most traded in volume, contributing 8.01%, while UCAP and JAIZBANK followed closely.

The value chart shows that UCAP contributed the most, with a 22.54% share. ACCESSCORP and ZENITHBANK  followed closely.

The NASD Securities Index (NSI) ended today’s trading on a bearish note, reversing Monday’s gain. The NSI dipped 0.21% to close at 1,491.92 points, in contrast with a 0.79% increase on Monday at 1,495.03 points.

The total volume traded declined by 90.10% to close at 127,098 units valued at N164.91m, traded in 18 deal(s).  

At the close of trading, the NASD OTC market recorded one (1) gainer and one (1) loser.
