The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has reportedly issued a recent forecast indicating forthcoming days of cloudiness, rainfall, and thunderstorms across the country. In response to this climatic projection, farmers; especially, those on the coasts in seven local governments of Anambra State, have indicated concern regarding the risks posed to their land. The waterways currently accommodate more than 350 expansive fish farms, thereby facing jeopardy with the onset of floods. Farmers in fish farming, yam, and cassava production may find themselves vulnerable in the face of inclement weather. Given this threat, farmers now prematurely harvest their crops to reduce the prospect of losses.
Analysts note that the repercussion of the looming floods could reverberate nationwide, with an accompanying rapid rise in domestic food prices, food inflation for July 2023 has already come in at a staggering 26.98%.
